Bio Capital is helping to empower young people to become tomorrow’s environmental problem-solvers through an innovative and longstanding partnership with Perth High School.
Bio Capital’s Earnside Energy plant has become an outdoor classroom where students on the National 5 Energy Skills for Work course witness the complete anaerobic digestion process, bringing the circular economy to life. The course provides a foundation for progression into further education or employment within the energy sector.
Rich Boyd, Assistant Site Manager at Earnside Energy, recently followed up with a visit to PerthHigh School to deliver a talk that provided further insight into anaerobic digestion and renewable energy, to support students completing their assignments.
The partnership extends into the classroom itself, as Bio Capital has supported the school’s physics department by donating new equipment including two signal generators and two oscilloscopes, replacing analogue equipment with a modern digital alternative. Improving the learning and teaching experience for hundreds of pupils both now and in the future.
Liz Dand, Physics Teacher at Perth High School, said:
“We have a great partnership with Bio Capital, the annual visits to their Earnside plant and the accompanying assignment is all about developing our students’ skills and knowledge, which they can take into their working lives. It also illustrates the importance of sustainably managing valuable resources like food waste.
“We are also very grateful for the equipment provided by Bio Capital, which is already in place in classrooms and has made a significant difference to the learning experience for our students.”
Rich Boyd, Asst. Site Manager at Bio Capital’s Earnside Energy plant, said: “We firmly believe working with schools is crucial to inspiring the next generation about the circular economy, how food waste can generate renewable energy, and why it’s far too valuable just to throw away.
“Our successful partnership with Perth High School is a fantastic example of this in action, and it’s a pleasure to work with the school and great to see how much the students get out of it. We very much look forward to continuing to work together.”
