Double Award Success: Sustainability & Safety Recognition For Granville Eco Park

The Granville Eco Park team were thrilled to celebrate a double win last month at the AD (Anaerobic Digestion) and Biogas Industry Awards 2020!

At the virtual Awards Ceremony hosted by ADBA (the Anaerobic Digestion and Bioresources Association) Granville Eco Park picked up the awards for:

Best Medium to Large Biogas Plant & The Health & Safety Award

The ADBA noted this year’s winners illustrated the “increasingly international nature of the competition – with the successful entries ranging from the UK, Germany, Italy and France to Norway, India and Thailand.”

Our Best Medium to Large Biogas Plant entry ‘Making Our Future Sustainable’ showcased our high plant efficiency, sustainable use of outputs, smart heat management, local agriculture support and Biomethane innovations for customers:

“We continuously seek to close loops to develop and extend our Sustainable circular economy structure where possible. The work we have done with our Digestate product this year, has been particularly poignant in saving farmers money in difficult economic times and removing chemicals from local land during a climate crisis. Moving towards renewable vehicle fuel and supporting our customers in sustainable transitions is the key to a better future.” – Shane Doherty, Plant Manager

‘Bespoke & Proactive Improvements’, our Health & Safety Award entry, highlighted our proactive approach to H&S, tailor made training for employees, our focus on continuous improvement and learning, Covid-19 adaptions as an essential business, successful H&S engagement of the team (increasing from 62% positive in Oct’18 to 100% positive in Nov’ 19) plus a creative revamping of our safety ‘Toolbox talks’ to a live format this year:

“In our new ‘Live’ Toolbox initiative, information is now in the format of a digital presentation, accompanied by an audio narration from an appropriate individual… various team members have been involved with this process, some focussing on their area of expertise and others using it to broaden their skills/knowledge. At the end of each talk, employees are instructed to follow a link and complete an online quiz to test their knowledge/understanding, all created in house. We are really proud of the work the team continually put into this and the critical ongoing learning and awareness that it provides.” – Pauline McCrory, HR & Marketing Manager

Our sister company, Granville Energy Supply was also recognised, receiving a ‘Highly Commended’ nod for the Best AD/Biogas Support Award. This was in recognition of Biomethane Energy Supply to our customers, achieving a reduction of their carbon footprint and enabling a clean ‘Smart Loop’ of food waste and energy to customer sites.

ADBA Chief Executive, Charlotte Morton, congratulated winners saying they “perfectly represent the global growth of our industry and its dynamism in all aspects of the industry.”

As a N.Ireland based company, we are thrilled to be recognised in the global arena and are proud to be delivering our Sustainable Services for local and national customers, ensuring the highest standards of safety and practice in the process.
