Bio Capital has announced it is to collaborate with Southwold-based brewery and hospitality group Adnams to rebuild and modernise their Anaerobic Digestion (AD) facility in Reydon, Suffolk. This important project aligns with Suffolk’s broader climate goals and will play a key role in the county’s transition to a more sustainable future.

The facility, originally built in 2010, is set to be redeveloped in time to meet the needs of incoming legislation that will require UK local authorities to collect food waste separately from households. Currently, Suffolk lacks a dedicated AD facility to process food waste. By partnering with Adnams, we aim to fill this critical gap, providing infrastructure that will help reduce reliance on landfills, cut carbon emissions, and convert organic waste into renewable energy.

Once operational, the new facility will generate green fuel for Adnams’ HGV fleet, provide green gas to power their brewery, and supply green CO2 for brewing processes. The project also promises to create local jobs and establish Suffolk as a leader in renewable energy.

Community engagement is at the heart of this project. Bio Capital and Adnams will be hosting public consultation events on Tuesday 8th and Wednesday 9th October at Southwold Arts Centre, from 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm. These sessions will allow local residents to learn more about the project, view images of the proposed facility, and share their thoughts with company representatives.
